Health insurance in the Netherlands | Expats

A health insurance is compulsory for everyone who lives or works in the Netherlands. Expats coming from a European country can be insured by the insurance of their home country via an EHIC (European health insurance card).  If you are an expat from outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland,  you must take out a Dutch basic health insurance within four months of receiving your residence permit. EU, EEA or Swiss nationals coming to the Netherlands as expats must take out a health insurance within four months of registration at the municipality.
